Vikings Take the State!
Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for capturing the 2010 State Championship! After a very long day that included several rain delays and three field changes, the final out was made at approximately 10:00 pm.
In the first game, the Vikings took on a very tough Greenwich team from the Albany District. After falling behind 1-0, they never got down and fought back to take the victory. After a nice lunch and a brief rest, the second game was to start at 3:45, but Mother Nature had other ideas! Both teams and their fans waited out a virtual monsoon that hit directly where we were supposed to play and made the field unplayable. The game was then moved to teh stadium home of the Binghamton Mets where we were set to follow the Class B Championship. That field was eventually declared unplayable and we all moved again!
After finally reaching the third field and watching the end of the Class D Championship, the game, originally slated to start at 3:45 saw its first pitch at 7:55pm! Both teams came out to play, but in the end, it was the Vikings who were holding the plaque on the field after a 2-0 victory!
Great season coaches and players.......no one wanted to see it end!

Section 1 Champs!!!!!
Congratulations to both the Baseball and Softball teams for their great victories to clinch the Section championships!!!!!
The boys fought through a great nail-biting game to beat their nemesis Keio in a 3-2 win. After Keio tied the game at 2, the Vikings came back in the top of the 7th with one run and then held on in the bottom of the 7th to claim the title!
In Nanuet, the girls faced (yet again) longtime rival Haldane. The Vikings came out hot right out of the gate and put up 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. They held a strong defense after that and, after adding one more run for insurance sake, closed out the game with a 4-0 victory.
Thank you to the players and coaches for a great season that is still going strong and for "bringing home the hardware." You can see the baseball team next on Sunday, June 6 at 2pm at SUNY Purchase and the softball team on Tuesday, June 8 at 3pm in Minisink Valley.
GO VIKINGS!

Spring sports keep scoring!
How 'bout those Vikings?! Congratulations to the Basball and Softball teams who both have successfully made it to the Section Finals!!! Both teams fought through weather delays to achieve success. The softball team waited out a 1 1/2 hour delay to come back and defeat North Salem 3-2. They will play on Thursday, June 3 at 4:30 at Nanuet High School.
The baseball team had to wait a little longer after their game on Tuesday was called with the Vikings up 1-0 after 1 inning. They successfully completed the game on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over Blind Brook. They will now play at Dutchess Stadium on Thursday, June 3 at 11:30 am.
In addition, Alexa Piccoli will be headed to States in track for the second straight year! She will be heading off to Binghamton next week to compete in the Pentathalon!
Congratulations to all of our athletes and coaches and good luck to everyone!

Congratulations to "The Sound of Music!"
If you didn't have a chance to see this year's VHS musical, "The Sound of Music," you missed an incredible performance by cast and crew. The unified sounds of all of the actors and actresses on the stage made watching the show a true experience. Each and every one of the young men and women, both on stage and behind the scenes, added their own touch to an incredible final product like the many colors of an artist's palette come together to make a beautiful painting.
Thanks go out to all of the parents that helped by being a part of the many parent committees that worked hard throughout the production period to help the production team and the students. They are irreplaceable! Special thanks and great kudos to out to the production team. Mr. Kurt Freitag who physically created Austria in Valhalla, Mr. Jeff Dulitz who let us see and hear all of the wonderful things that happened on the stage, Mr. Aaron Berk who not only led the orchestra but helped the students find their voice, Mrs. Paula Soricelli who brought grace to the stage through her choreography and Mr. Bill Mentz whose vision led to the stage designs and whose hard work and love of what he does led the students of Valhalla to another successful and outstanding spring musical!

"Arrive Alive" a big success...
October's "Arrive Alive" demonstration/break out groups was a very successful program. Due to the support of the Mt. Pleasant Police Dept., the Valhalla Ambulance Corps, and the Valhalla Fire Dept. along with the vision of senior Jen Hiltz, the high school students had the opportunity to watch the process and consequences surrounding a two-car accident caused by a drunk driver. With sirens blaring and lights flashing, police cars, ambulances and fire trucks descended on the high school lower parking lot as the students looked on. Police officers, EMTs, and fire fighters went about their job of attending to the injured, extracting trapped victims from a car using the "jaws of life," and administering a "field sobriety test" to the "suspect."
After the demonstration, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions and listen to the emergency workers in "break-out" groups. The students had great questions and listened intently to the rescue workers whose bottom line was to have the students make good decisions.
Whether they may get behind the wheel of the car or be a passenger in a vehicle, the students were told to PLEASE think before they act. One bad decision can change a person's life forever.
Thank you to the men and women who were a part of the demonstration on Friday and who respond to our needs on a daily basis!

Winter Sports Awards Night

Congratulations to Mr. Jamie Block and the Winter Coaches for a fantastic season! The Winter Sports Awards Night, held on Thursday, April 2, was a great way to bring closure to such a great season. From the wonderful video montage to the enjoyable social gathering to the individual team meetings throughout the building, the night was full of celebration and recognition. It was so good to see the success of our teams being recognized by both hardware and applause. I am looking forward to the same excitement at our Spring Awards Night at the end of the year!
